Case Study 1: Read all about it - Professor green - ft - Emile Sande

Case study 1 : Professor Green: Read all about it
The synopsis of the video is about a boy who is staring at his step mother working and his stepsister playing when the step mother realises him she calls his dad, the dad allows him into his house and lets him go to his old room, the father later then calls someone who most likely is the boys son. the son then damages everything in his room, the step mum comes and screams at him. The boy closes his eyes and screams when he wakes up he's in a warehouse looking at professor green, it is based on Professor Green's past as a child.
The music video is a narrative performance, They're acting out Professor Green's young life and he's narrating it in the song. " Jobs more like public service, my life's just became yours to read and interpret" so he's narrating his life in the song and the boy is performing it.
The video is quite dark and gloomy especially for the parts where the child is in showing the child (Professor Green) had a bad past which is not just conveyed through the video and the song but also the lighting in the video. The parts where Professor Green is in is dark but there is light in the ware house showing that there is a bright future. The boy and Professor Green are both wear black hoody's.
In this music video Professor Green is represented as an angry person but when he is singing it sounds like it is actually coming from the heart which is reinforced by the fact that he is singing about his bad past. Even though he is represented as an angry person but he is looking at life in a positive way, he is also a happy person because he is using mistakes his father made as his advantage for himself to become a better father. Emile Sande sings the chorus which is representing the thoughts that are going through the child's head and Professor Green is singing about what happened when he was a kid.
There are many camera angles used for example establishing shot, long shot, mid shit, panning, worm view etc. The cut rates are slow at the beginning because of the slow flow of the music but when the beat drops and it becomes more intense the cut rates become faster.
The target audience of this song are people of all ages from the age of 11 -40 this is because there's no swearing in the song, also it would be suitable for the older audience as it is not about sex, drugs and alcohol it's about someone's bad upbringing.

An idea I would really like to take from this video is the fact that someone narrates in the video through the song and then someone performs it out or even the same person.

  1. Abul this is descriptive of the narrative element. You need to analyse the performance, discuss Emeli Sande and the performance element too. In terms of the narrative, your case study should explore the camera, mise-en-scene, editing techniques used and why. Instead of listing pick out examples to understand how and why the video was made. Also refer to the assignment brief and make this more visual, including stills from the video would help and presenting it visually.
