Lyric annotation and analysis
Today me and rohan read the lyrics many times then we came to with ideas we went from the
Change of song
We have decided to change our song choice as we were approached with friends and we as a group believed that this song would be better as there would be a better video for it and it would suit a bigger audience its about a relationship that a boy and girl had but the girl leaves the guy and is pregnant and needs to her life together.

Treatment 1st Draft
Treatment
The song that we have chosen is about the hatred and slavery
of people in the past and still there are still patches of it in the modern
world.
We have 2 ideas for our music video, one of them is where the
singer sings the song in front of the camera at different locations without a
proper story line. The singer would then be singing and views of urban inner
city places, doing his own thing including singing in the studio.
Another idea would include him singing in front of the camera
but also including a story line in the background. The song is about racism and
hatred to his own race. In the story line he would overcome the stereotypes
that have been put on him. He would be working hard for an education but at the
same time being hated by many people. Finally at the end he comes out of a big
office in a suit which would show he works there.
The conceptual elements in the second idea are the fact that
he is overcoming the stereotypes and becoming successful in life with all the
hate surrounding him.
The professional music video that inspired was Eminem when
I’m gone as he talks about hate and sorrow whilst trying to overcome it.
Another professional music video that inspired us was read
all about it by professor green. The song is about a lonely boy who had a lot
of hate from his father and had a bad past which is similar to our song we have
chosen which is about a bad past. The video in the professional music is going
to be similar as. It is about the past and the present, our song is about a bad
past of slavery and hatred which is still going on but the person overcame is
and became successful. But our promo video is going to be different because it’s
going to be about everyone who are surrounded by hate.
Our promo video is going to be different from our
professional case studies because our video will be about everyone who are
surrounded by hate and have had a bad upbringing with racism and slavery. But
our case studies are about the singer themselves and their upbringing/ when
they were younger.
We are going to have the singer in the video, a few other
actors. Everyone will be wearing casual clothing except for one scene where the
person lip syncing will be wearing a suit. Our locations will include inner
city urban areas like Camden, Shoreditch, and central London for a few scenes,
in the train / Train station, recording studio, park and also the library.
There isn’t many explicit language in the music video as it
is about slavery and hate but there is a few explicit language.
The length of the music video will be about 3 minutes long.
The main audience of the music video will be people who have
been through racism and are or have been surrounded by hate. Also our audience
will be form the age of 15 – 35.
The music video will be broadcasted on YouTube.
Case study 3 - Drake - Energy
Case study 3:
Drake - Energy
This song is different to the other case studies I have
studied it's more of a typical rap music video but not about drugs and sex but
about haters and people drake hates it's not about a hard past and upbringing
like my other case studies.
In this video Drake is talking about all his enemies, the
music video is more of a humorous music video than a serious video which is
more like drake because none of his songs are serious as in about his past or
about something that is true. The video is more "hood" (gang), its
less professional, in the video he has a lot of people behind him wearing hoods
which adds to the effect of a hood video. he is talking about his haters in a
direct but also indirect way. an example would be Miley Cyrus when she is the
song wrecking ball with the mallet but in drakes video her faced is changed to
a man's face.
The video is not really a narrative. He is talking about his
haters and they are showing his haters in different scenes but the video does
not follow what he is saying so it more of a performance video because the
video does not fully follow the lyrics and there is a lot of dancing in the
video.
The theme of this
video is more urban because everyone is wearing causal/ gang clothes like hoodies
and casual jeans hats, snapbacks.
Drake is represented as a gang leader because in the video he
is at the front of everyone and everyone else behind him is following his lead,
different people do the lip synching in the video. drake is represented as a
clown in the video because they replace the heads of his enemies and replace it
with his head and edit a bit.
There are many camera angles used in the video including
close up zoom in, zoom out low angle shots high angles shots, establishing
shots extreme close up also black and white scenes are used as well as
establishing shots and slow motion.
the target audience are young teenagers to the age of 24 because
that the main audience of drake and most people in that age range listen to his
songs.
They are encouraged to by the song because Drake would have
advertised it on his social media accounts saying ill love you if you buy my
new single/ album, also this is what is appealing to the younger age.
I really like the idea of using the black and white scenes in
his music video so I would definitely want to include black and white scenes in
our video.
Case Study 2 - Eminem - Mocking Bird
Case study 2: Eminem mockingbird
In the video Eminem is watching old recorded
videos he filmed before he become a professional rapper, in the song he's
talking to his daughters about their bad past and how he left them to become a
professional but then his wife didn't like it and how she left him and for his
daughters to be alright as he's always there for them.
The video is performances based, Eminem is
telling a story and the old videos are used but there's not performance from
the videos, which is different because the song is a narrative but the
performance doesn’t go with the lyrics the only link there is between the
lyrics and the video is the fact that Eminem is rapping about the past of his
daughters and videos are of his daughters when they were babies and toddlers.
Also he raps about flying away to become a professional rapper where he meets
Dr. Dre and during those lyrics an old footage is shown where Eminem is working
with Dr. Dre when he was younger before he became well know n, also when he
says mommy is always on the news they show a clip from the news.
Eminem is a person in the film reminiscing the
past as a more mature dad that knows he made mistakes in the past, instead of
being a normal rap video where they talk about nothing that makes no sense
performing something irrelevant, Eminem raps about his life. In the video he
looks like he regrets the choices he made, even though because of the choices
he made he is where he is today it's given him a better future and he is saying
to his daughters it's alright I'm still here for you.
There's no theme in the video but old videos
are used which could be a theme because its reinforcing the fact that he's
talking about the past. In the old videos the lighting in the videos are
bright which shows happiness, even though they were living a tough life in
those videos they were a happy family which reinforces the fact that money can'
buy happiness. in the parts where Eminem is watching the old videos it is dark
and gloomy which shows that he is sad and has and regretful even though he has
money he does not have a proper family.
There are many different shot types used in this video from
establishing shot to panning, zoom in, close up, mid shot, long shot zoom it.
The cut rates of the video are slow because the song is a slow paced song.
The target audience of the song is for fans of rap music
fans because Eminem plays such a big role in the rap music industry he is one
of the most popular and the biggest. The audience of the song is 12+ but it
would be mostly popular with the older teenage audience because the song is
about his past and it's not about drugs and sex and the older teenagers are
more mature so they would prefer a song that has a meaning.
One idea we could use in our promo video is the fact that
the video doesn’t fully follow the lyrics so the performance doesn’t have to
follow the lyrics all the way through the video which is different because most
songs performance follow the lyric.
Case Study 1: Read all about it - Professor green - ft - Emile Sande
Case study 1 : Professor Green: Read all about it
The synopsis of the video is about a boy who is staring at
his step mother working and his stepsister playing when the step mother
realises him she calls his dad, the dad allows him into his house and lets him
go to his old room, the father later then calls someone who most likely is the
boys son. the son then damages everything in his room, the step mum comes and
screams at him. The boy closes his eyes and screams when he wakes up he's in a
warehouse looking at professor green, it is based on Professor Green's past as
a child.
The music video is a narrative performance, They're acting
out Professor Green's young life and he's narrating it in the song. " Jobs
more like public service, my life's just became yours to read and
interpret" so he's narrating his life in the song and the boy is
performing it.
The video is quite dark and gloomy especially for the parts
where the child is in showing the child (Professor Green) had a bad past which
is not just conveyed through the video and the song but also the lighting in
the video. The parts where Professor Green is in is dark but there is light in
the ware house showing that there is a bright future. The boy and Professor
Green are both wear black hoody's.
In this music video Professor Green is represented as an
angry person but when he is singing it sounds like it is actually coming from
the heart which is reinforced by the fact that he is singing about his bad
past. Even though he is represented as an angry person but he is looking at
life in a positive way, he is also a happy person because he is using mistakes
his father made as his advantage for himself to become a better father. Emile
Sande sings the chorus which is representing the thoughts that are going
through the child's head and Professor Green is singing about what happened
when he was a kid.
There are many camera angles used for example establishing
shot, long shot, mid shit, panning, worm view etc. The cut rates are slow at
the beginning because of the slow flow of the music but when the beat drops and
it becomes more intense the cut rates become faster.
The target audience of this song are people of all ages from
the age of 11 -40 this is because there's no swearing in the song, also it
would be suitable for the older audience as it is not about sex, drugs and
alcohol it's about someone's bad upbringing.
An idea I would really like to take from this video is the
fact that someone narrates in the video through the song and then someone
performs it out or even the same person.

Editing Peactice Task
Today we edited our practice music video task using Final Cut Pro. We downloaded the song and we transferred it into the software. We then placed all our clips into the software and wracked through all of them keeping the good clips and deleting the bad clips. After we rearranged the videos in the song order after we kept the best ones we cut the bad parts out and then put it into the timeline and the synced the song with the lip sync.
